Paedophile ex-police officer sentenced for child porn offences

Published:

A PAEDOPHILE police officer found with more than a thousand indecent images of children who also stole CS spray has been sentenced to jail for six months.

Former Surrey Police constable Simon Quinn made 1,100 indecent images of children and owned three extreme pornographic images.

He pleaded guilty to ten charges of making indecent images of children and one charge of possessing three extreme pornographic images. He was handed the sentence in Hove Crown Court last week and the  images were confiscated.

The prosecution, authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service, followed an investigation by the Paedophile On-Line Investigation Team at Sussex Police. Quinn was arrested at his then home address in Hawthorn Close, Horsham, in August 2013.

The 43-year-old, now of The Street, Rustington, quit the force four years ago.

Detective constable Chris Smith said all of the images were obtained from the internet and there is no evidence of any contact with children.

He added: “Although there was no evidence of any contact offending, each image in these cases represents a criminal offence of child abuse and we will continue our efforts to identify and bring to justice such offenders.”

  • An earlier version of an article said Quinn also stole a pair of handcuffs, a warrant card, two batons and a CS spray from Surrey Police and pleaded guilty to theft and possessing a prohibited weapon, in accordance with information supplied by Sussex Police. The force has since issued a statement saying this information was incorrect and he was charged with these offences but the Crown Prosecution Service decided not to proceed.
